Hatboro Welcomes New Councilman, Tom Smith

On Monday, May 18, 2026, Borough Council appointed new Councilman, Tom Smith. Tom was appointed to fill the vacancy on Borough Council following the resignation of Councilman Hoover in April 2026.

Councilman Smith has been a resident of Hatboro for over 8 years and first began his service to the Borough as a member of the Hatboro Little League Board. Shortly thereafter, Councilman Smith began his service on the Borough’s Historical Commission. He later went on to serve as a part of the Union Library Board, Planning Commission, and Zoning Sub Committee where he served an integral role in developing draft regulations for the ongoing Zoning Re-write. Tom also served as Borough Treasurer from November 2021 to May 2026.

Councilman Smith’s service to Hatboro does not stop there. He also actively volunteers with the Union Library of Hatboro and the Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce.

Professionally, Councilman Smith has been an accountant for over 40 years. Councilman Smith loves working for and with the residents of Hatboro, and with his strong background in finance, knowledge of planning/zoning principles and Hatboro’s history, Tom looks forward to helping make Hatboro a vibrant destination and the “crown jewel” of Montgomery County.

In his free time, Tom enjoys spending time with his partner, Sue, and her two cats as well as attending Hatboro’s many events.

Congratulations on your appointment, Councilman Smith!
