Approval of minutes Motion to approve September 11, 2025 (tabled until we can locate the September minutes) Bird Town Committee Minutes.
Motion to approve November 13, 2025 Bird Town Committee Minutes. –Motion make by Kelly A’Harrah with the edit of Michael Williams last name. Second by Mike Williams.
Bird Towns Annual Report Goals and Activity Worksheet Review :
Alex – Grey Section (municipal partnerships / initiatives / sustainable land development) – no update on specific bird town progress in this section. However, Borough Council is considering either combining the three Environmentally Focused Committees into one committee or redefining missions for each of these committees. Specifically, Shade Tree Committee, Environmental Advisory Committee and Bird Town Committee. Jennifer & Adam – Green Section (school & youth focused education and sustainable practices) – Working with Crooked Billet’s principal and facilities team to identify a plan to
prevent bird strikes. Possible solutions were hanging artwork, painting windows, hanging cd’s, etc. Also working with facilities to identify an area on the property for pollinator / native planting garden.
Rita & Mike – Yellow Section (Engaging community and volunteers) – Mike reported that the library is creating a birding backpack for loan to community members. Contents may include a birding book, binoculars and a journal, along with instructions for use. He also reported that library volunteers are organizing a native shrub / flower planting in its flowerbeds and possibly installing a pollinator garden. He requested plot lines of the library property to ensure that any sustainability improvement would be on the library property.
Kate – Peach Section (Partnerships to create a bird friendly region) – Kate reported that she has communicated with Liberty Bird Alliance to offer a bird walk for the community. Looking to offer this walk in the spring at Pennypack. She has attended a bird walk in a neighboring community and is finalizing details.
Kelly – Blue Section (Advocacy for healthy wildlife habitats) – Kelly would like the native plan ordinance to be revisited. There is a meeting at Lower Makefield that she would like to attend on this topic in hopes for a strategy that Hatboro can model. There is a riparian buffer ordinance. Kelly reported about a regioinal salt measure that has been postponed from Jan. 30 – Feb. 13. Volunteers measure salt levels in local waterways and report back to a central organization.
Planning participation in upcoming borough events
Earth Day – April 11 – EAC would like some approvals before moving forward with planning of events, mainly that the contract for Hawk Mountain bird presentation should be presented for council consideration at 2/2 meeting. Also, possibly gaining the support of the Pennypack Events committee for Earth Day in hopes that by combining efforts it can show continuity across committees for events surrounding environmental education, sustainability and how important it is for our town and it’s residents.
