Located at 304 Bonair Avenue, Powell’s Electric Service, has been family owned and operated since 1921. Owner Douglas Powell’s grandfather opened his first store out of his home on Byberry Road called Powell’s Electric Shop which sold electric appliances and he would update the electric service to customers homes for their new appliances.

Doug’s grandfather moved the shop to 35 S. York Road and moved again to Springdale Avenue before calling Bonair Avenue home for the last 46 years. The appliance store eventually evolved into Powell’s Electric Service, which his father Fred Powell ran until 1990 when Doug took over the business and expanded it.

Powell’s are full service electrical contractors and they handle everything from small residential repairs to large commercial installations. They don’t just do the repairs and leave, but they also help their customers maintain everything they install. Powell’s is large enough to handle big jobs, but not too big to lose the family owned “personal touch” with any service they provide.

Powell’s supplies/installs all types of commercial and residential generators, and provides factory warranty repairs/maintenance.  They can also install new 100-200 AMP and 400 AMP electrical service upgrades for residential and larger services for commercial properties Powell’s can also install electric car charger units for residential and commercial locations.

But that’s not all! Powell’s provides parking lot lighting repairs from new poles, pole base installations, and bulb changes to full lighting upgrades and the replacement or installation of wooden electric/telephone poles.

Doug states that Powell’s pride themselves on a job well done, in a timely and professional manner and most importantly, that the customer is happy when the job is complete and that is why many of their customers have been with them for decades.

Powell’s Electric Service is open Monday through Friday from 7:30am -4:00pm. They are closed most weekends; however, they are available for emergency service calls.
